Who We Are
Great Start Macomb is the local planning and decision-making body for Great Start - Michigan's comprehensive early childhood system.


Vision
A Great Start for every child in Macomb County, safe, healthy and ready to succeed in school and in life.


Mission
The mission of the Great Start Collaborative is to assure a coordinated early childhood system of culturally diverse community resources and supports whereby all Macomb County families have knowledge of and access to the services they need, resulting in a Great Start for their children newborn to age 5.

The five components of the Great Start System that contribute to school readiness.


Goals
• Infants, young children and their families are physically healthy.
• Families support and guide the early learning of their infants and toddlers.
• Infants, young children and their families are socially and emotionally healthy.
• Families have access to high quality early care and education.
• Infants and young children live in safe families.
• Families of infants and young children are economically stable.
• Children are ready to succeed in school and in life.


Michigan's Early Childhood Investment Corporation
Great Start Macomb was officially recognized by the Early Childhood Investment Corporation (ECIC) in April 2008. The ECIC was formed under the leadership of Governor Granholm. The ECIC is a public corporation that provides funding and consultation to Great Starts across the state to help assure the healthy development for all Michigan children. As of April 2009, every county in Michigan is a Great Start Community!
